Sinopsis film ini bergenre indie sci-fi multiverse ini menceritakan tentang seorang perempuan imigran asal China, Evelyn Quan Wang (Miichelle Yeoh) yang kini tinggal di Amerika bersama keluarganya.
Di US ia dan suaminya, Wamond Wang (Ke Huy Quan) menjalankan bisnis penatu. Suatu hari, Evelyn dihadapkan masalah yang bertubi-tubi menghadapi Gong Gong (James Hong) dan putri semata wayang, Joy (Stephanie Hsu).
Evelyn tidak sempat mengurus semuanya secara bersamaan pada hari itu ia memiliki agenda untuk mengurus pajak di Internal Revenue SErvice (IRS). Namun hari itu nasibnya berubah drastis, ketika muncul Waymond dari semesta lain. Ia meminta bantuan Evelyn untuk menyelamatkan semesta dari ancaman Jobu Tupaki.
